The first thing you must consider is that this type of business can be seasonal, perhaps running for only six months although other aspects of it will also keep you busy all year round. Next, it keeps you outdoors most of the times even if you hire additional staff to help you as the business grows.

Everyone wants to have their lawns mowed on a regular basis. This alone is sufficient to give you some idea about the earning potential of this home based business. Nowadays, many people don’t like the hassle of mowing their lawns themselves. Many people just can’t keep up with the routine required to keep the lawn kempt.

Initially you will have to do some real marketing as you have to beat the leaders in the business. Don’t get unnecessarily worried if you can’t get more than a couple of contracts in the beginning. Let the work begin and the referral marketing will surely help you get more.

Ensure that you start as you mean to continue by making contracts with home owners for the lawn care service on a regular basis with payment schedules in place.

If you are starting small, buy a simple lawn mower from a local showroom only. Confirm with the seller the warranty and the after sales services available. Buy the recommended spare parts when you buy the mower and keep them ready for emergencies. For your business to keep running, service the machine regularly as recommended by the manufacturer.

As business increases, so do the responsibilities. Accounting, personnel handling, inventory purchase, legal and tax issues needs to be handled. Sure you will forget that you started this business as part time job and the income of 6 months suffices for the whole year.
